A little bit of Mark; A letter from Mark Munoz's wife

Wow, this is such an inspirational letter from Mark Munoz's wife. Especially right before his fight at the MGM in UFC 108 and the New Year. I had to share it with everyone so they can see great character Mark Munoz has. Not only does he have great character and perseverance, he has a great wife behind him supporting him too. It's always nice to see the other side of the fighter, and by the other side, I'm talking about the supportive side from the significant other. Thank you Mark and Kristi Munoz!

Here is the letter:

Hey Everyone,

Just thought I would share this with you all before the weekend!

Probably the thing I admire most about Mark is his ability and desire to follow his dreams with all of his heart! Many of you might not know this about him, but when he was in high school he broke all the bones in his ankle and was told he might not ever walk again. He was told he would definitely never play football again (which was his passion at the time). Being as active as he was, he was determined to prove the doctors wrong. Instead of letting it get him down, he turned his focus to wrestling. It took him only 3 months to ditch the crutches and by 7 months he had won his first high school state wrestling championship. 1 year later he won the High School National Championship, the top 189 pound wrestler in the country!

He then went off to college to Oklahoma State University, which holds the most NCAA Championship titles in collegiate history. He knew in his heart he would win at least one championship there. His junior year he went into the championship tournament seeded #1, but was derailed in the semifinals by one of his nemesis. He finished 3rd that year. But his senior year, nothing stood in his way. He was determined, and it showed. In 2001, he earned the top spot as the 197 pound NCAA Division I National Champion.

After college, he got a coaching position at UC Davis, only 30 minutes from his hometown. It was there that he met Urijah, one of the up and coming MMA stars at the time. Urijah, who wrestled at Davis, was constantly encouraging Mark to try fighting. Mark had 3 kids at the time, was working towards his masters degree, and was coaching full time. He was not interested in fighting...until December 2006, when he attended the New Year's UFC year end event (Ortiz vs. Liddell). He felt his heart pumping as the lights went out and the crowd was roaring. He watched as Liddell took out Ortiz, and he thought "I could do that". This was the moment he decided he wanted to try his hand at fighting. He said he would be there someday. A year and a half later, on June 1, 2008, he walked out for his first big WEC fight at Arco Arena. The crowd went crazy! I remember looking at my brother, both of us with tears in our eyes, thinking he had reached his dream. Win or lose, it didn't matter. He had reached the place he set his mind upon.

Which brings us to this weekend, and the reason I am writing this email! I came across this picture of our family at Lego Land a couple years back. Mark was 1-0 in his career as a fighter at the time. He stood in front of the MGM lego statue, put his fist in the air and said, "Take a picture Kris! I will be fighting here one day!"

Mark may not be as quick as the next guy, he may not have the better footwork or the better punch, or maybe he does I don't know...but what he does have is the will and desire to work hard at everything he does. Not just in his athletic life, but his personal life, his family life, and his spiritual life. He is the most amazing person I have ever met, and I just wanted to share a little bit of him with you before we head out this weekend.

Can't wait to celebrate this weekend with you all! See you at the MGM!

P.S. Check out the attached picture if you get a chance!

With Love Always,
Kristi "The proud wife"

Merry Christmas - Maligayang Pasko!

OMG time flew by so quickly. I can't believe Christmas is already here. I have to admit on Christmas Eve Eve I am going to be one of those last minute Christmas shoppers. It's always hard to find that perfect gift, especially for someone you care about. I personally love handmade thoughtful gifts. They are always creative and more sentimental. That's why I love me some Build-A-Bear lol. Oh and PICTURES! Gentlemen, here is a tip... women love pictures in picture frames!

I'm really looking forward to being with my family on Christmas. All I keep thinking about is my moms cooking, eating the lumpia we wrapped on Thanksgiving, and my manang Dawn's Christmas cookies. One thing I'm going to miss is my brother presence. He is in the Navy and stationed in Atsugi, Japan. Out of 27 years, this will be my first Christmas without him. Breaks my heart knowing that he wont be here for the holiday but at least he is saving more leave time to come visit for the more important things like when my grandmother passes away. I'm about to break down in tears just writing that, but it is what it is. I hate knowing that she is dying and suffering everyday. My prayers for her to heal have now turned to asking God to please take her with him so she can be with my grandpa... and it breaks my heart :( When I'm with her I try to spend as much time with her as much as possible...

Anyway, I'm happy I get to see my grandmother and my family this holiday. I have the greatest family and I'm thankful I'm blessed with them. This holiday is always about cherishing family with good times and I definitely can't wait!

Merry Christmas - Maligayang Pasko! I hope you have a great holiday with your family. Peace and Blessings to you all.

Autograph signing with Jake Shields. Proceeds to go the Children's Hospital

Today Jake Shields is signing autographs at Eastridge mall in San Jose, CA from 6-8PM for MMA-KO. As their Miss August, they invited me to be a special guest and sign autographs with Jake. I support MMA-KO because they are all from the Central Valley... the 209, where I grew up. And anyone from that area knows it's hard to make a dollar out of fifteen cents.

Don't be alarmed by the fee for autographs. There is obviously no fee for mine lol, but for Jake's. All proceeds go to the Children's Hospital of Oakland.

If you're in the bay area for Strikeforce come by and check it out!

My MMA Holiday Wishlist 2009!

These are things that I think look cute and are definitely on my 2009 Holiday wish list... and Santa said I've been a good girl this year =)

1. Queen Hoody - Fight Chix
I'm not saying this because I am a spoke smodel for Fight Chix but this hoody is too cute and sporty. It has fur inside and is comfy. I love it. It's on my wish list because it's a must have for every woman who is a fan of MMA.

2. Vertigo Henley long sleeve Black - TapouT
The cut of this shirt is cute. I love the buttons to unbutton and show the cleavage I don't have! lol But really... it will fit the body right and that's why it's on my wish list.

3. Radical Board Shorts - Punishment Athletics
There is something about these shorts that express to me comfy which is why I have it on my wish list. It just screams out 'cook in these shorts' to me lol.

4. Empower Thermal - Fight Chix
This is a must have thermal for winter. It is sexy and has Empower on it. It's exactly what women stand for... Empowerment!

5. Philippine Walkout - Jaco Clothing
Jaco Clothing is newer to the MMA scene this year, but definitely caught my eye when they sponsored Brandon Vera. I would be walking a proud pinay wearing this shirt.

6. iGrapple shirt - MMA Warehouse
When I did the Their Fight Is Our Fight event, MMA Warehouse was one of our sponsors and they donated this shirt for us to raffle and giveaway. Ever since I saw it, I thought it was super cute and very creative... just something I had to have. I'd love to rock this shirt by cutting off the top to show some shoulder and do it 80's style :)

7. Lono sunglasses - Vandal Eyewear
I already have the Kai version of Vandal Eyewear, but when I saw these I knew they were a must have. They have spring time written all over it. Cute for driving to a shooting for GymPass in traffic lol.

8. Mabuhay tee - Toe 2 Toe
This shirt makes me feel good inside. It was created for a good cause and I'd love to have another one to wear because the one that I have is signed by everyone who participated in the charity event. Pinoys represent!

9. BJ Penn Hat - BJ PENN
I am such a hat girl. I love rockin' hats with hoop earrings. I grew up in the 80s and love the look. When they showed the red BJ Penn hat on my episode of GymPass at the RVCA gym with BJ Penn, I had to have it. Plus, red is my favorite color.

10. Brad Tavares - MMA Fighter

He is a fighter from Hawaii that is hella fine, 22 years old and taken. I'd like to have him single and 5 years older than his age now lol. I've been good this year, Santa. Can you warp us into a time zone before he met his girlfriend when I saw him grapple in that no-gi tournament in Hawaii? haha

I hope all of you have a wonderful Holiday Season this year!

P.S. I know I've been a little naughty but super nice. Santa, please get me my Holiday wish list this year! ;)

UFC 107 could not have been possible without Ed Clay!

I know the blog title may sound quite odd, but Ed Clay is a prominent figure and one of the first pioneers of MMA in Tennessee. He is the owner of Gameness and was the first to hire a lobbyist to help legalize MMA in Tennessee. After fighting for over four years, we now had UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee.... and boy it sure was an amazing card!

I know Ed wasn't alone to help legalize MMA in Tennessee, but it sure is nice to see people like him who will do anything to help this sport grow. He needs be be recognized for his hard work and dedication to MMA.

Thanks, Ed... my mentor and one of my best friends.

Kimbo on TUF...

Here are my thoughts.

First off, I'm questioning if I'm going to continue to watch this season of The Ultimate Fighter because Kimbo lost his fight and cause the fight with Wes Shivers and James McSweeney was WACK! I can't believe these guys were picked to be on TUF when they couldn't even last one or two rounds in the octagon. At least they now know what they need to work on - Cardio!

Kimbo Slice really impressed me with his fight against Roy 'Big Country' Nelson. I couldn't believe I actually saw a leg kick coming from Kimbo. It's very exciting to see a fighter come from the streets into the professional sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Ever since I met Kimbo and his manager Icey Mike at AVN a few years ago, I've always been a Kimbo fan. It's funny cause once I told Icey Mike I was 'Miss Rara from the UG' he took me in with open arms inviting me to all their Reality Kings parties and fiascos. That's what I love about the MMA industry; its so small everyone knows each other, but once you're in - you're in!

I really liked how the producers focused on Kimbo's personality. You'd think he's a tough bully but the reality is, he's a normal guy. I loved how Kimbo was talking about how he had never been this connected with God in his life... how he had 'ENEMYS' but it was really his 'Inner Me' he was battling. How could you not like the guy after that?

WHAT I LOVED THE MOST ABOUT KIMBO ON TUF
I loved how he was rockin' the Tribute to Mask TapouT tee. Once I saw that, I thought to myself 'Kimbo respects the sport and the people who helped contribute to it'. Then I remembered running into him at Mask's funeral. (pic of us at Mask's funeral - http://www.combatlifestyle.com/pics/view_image.php?id=66430) R.I.P. Charles 'Mask' Lewis

Although he really needs to work on his ground game, I got all the love and respect for Kimbo because he loves fighting; he respects the sport. Kimbo right now is one of the most powerful men in MMA. Just think about it for a second....

My experience at the Pacquiao vs Hatton private red carpet media event

http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content4632.html

Did I really just attend a boxing media event? I sure did...the exclusive red carpet Hollywood premiere of “The Battle of East and West” Pacquiao vs. Hatton. First and foremost, I’d like to thank FightHype for giving me the opportunity to write for them and to meet one of my heroes, Manny Pacquiao. I’m really in shock and awe that I was able to attend such a great event and got the chance to interview Freddie Roach, Victor Ortiz, and the one and only Manny Pacquiao.

As some of you know, I normally attend mixed martial arts events, so it was interesting to see the difference between a boxing and mixed martial arts media event. I’m so used to seeing everyone wearing jeans and Affliction shirts, or some other type of MMA Apparel brand name clothing. To my surprise, almost everyone was dressed up in suits with jackets and ties, including reporters and even some photographers. Then again, maybe I’m being too over-analytical. After all, the event was being held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California for what could be considered the fight of the century.

The red carpet was packed with news cameras, photographers and fans screaming in the background. They had an announcer outside introducing everyone walking on the red carpet. Inside the Blossom room, where the press conference was being held, they were serving all kinds of food, like tri-tip, chicken, mashed potatoes, fruit and salad. Thank GOD they were NOT serving sandwiches (lol). The best part about it, though, were the free drinks (lol), including free wine and Tecate.

Most people know I live my life on my Blackberry. I am constantly on the go and on internet connected somehow lurking the Underground, checking my RSS feeds to MMA Media sites, posting Facebook updates, taking pictures for my BeenUp2 account, and tweeting on Twitter. I admit, I am a twitterholic *raises hand* :)
http://twitter.com/missrara

I took a picture of Victor Ortiz as he walked the red carpet and happily posted it. The caption read “Can Victor Ortiz look any more cuter than what he already is?”

After that, more celebrities started to walk the red carpet and I entered the Blossom room hoping to catch an interview with Ortiz. I remember walking up to him and quickly turning away. Gosh, I’m so used to happily walking up to an MMA fighter for an interview. Why couldn't I find the courage to approach a boxer? It was a good thing I turned away because I realized that the battery on my voice recorder was dead. “Oh no,” I thought. I hurried and walked out of the hotel and as I did, I didn’t realize Freddie Roach was doing a television interview. I kinda walked behind him, but the cameraman mean-mugged me when I squeezed by. I told him I was sorry. I didn’t even realize what was going on around me. All I knew was I was on a mission to get to the store to buy AAA batteries so I could interview some fighters. :).

Now how ironic is this? So, I'm at this Pacquiao vs. Hatton media event and Filipino UFC light heavyweight Mark Munoz texts me to ask if I was in Nashville. I replied back and told him where I was and he was so stoked. He said he was supposed to be there as well, but was in Nashville for UFC Fight Night 18 to corner Tim McKenzie. That would have been dope if fellow Pinoy fighters Mark Munoz, Phillipe Nover and Brandon Vera were all there. MMA kababayan all day everyday. :)

Anyway, as soon as I got back, more media started to enter the press room. Since I didn't know anyone there, I was chillin’ by myself just analyzing everything around me. I saw Freddie Roach getting interviewed and waited for my turn. I got a really good interview out of him and couldn't believe that I had the opportunity to chat with such a boxing legend that’s been in the game for decades. Of course, I took a picture with Freddie Roach and posted it as soon as I was done. :)

I saw Victor Ortiz with his girlfriend walking near Freddie and politely asked him for an interview. I thought he was cute until I asked him if he followed mixed martial arts and he replied, "to be honest, no I don't." In just a matter of seconds, he went from being cute to not cute at all (lol). After all, how could you not follow the wonderful sport of mixed martial arts? Then again, he is a professional boxer and will definitely be a household name himself in the next few years. I didn't bother to ask Victor for a photo because his girlfriend was standing right there. Not that it mattered, it’s just common courtesy.

Shortly after, Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao entered the room. All cameras were on and rolling, with flashes in every direction. Floyd Maywearther Sr. starting rhyming playfully, dissing Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach at the same time. It was pure comedy.

I thought of my Dad right away and sent him a text, "I wish you were here with me. This is such a cool event." My Dad loves boxing and growing up, my sister and I would always watch it with him. To be Filipina at an event like this, how could I not think of him to share that moment?

After the conference was over, a security guard was telling everyone, including me, to leave except for print media. As he was telling another group of people to leave I turned around and went straight to Manny Pacquiao's table where he was talking to reporters. No way I was gonna walk out on an opportunity like this. I was determined!

While other reporters were asking him questions, I was standing right next to Manny. As he was being escorted to leave, I jumped in with my recorder in hand and got a chance to ask him a few questions. It didn't last long because he was being rushed, but he kinda looked at me with a confused look like, “Is this Filipina really asking me about mixed martial arts?” Ha ha! I had to do it! Plus, he even let me take a picture with him and sure enough, I posted it right away. :)

I sent the photo to my mom and called my parents to share my experience with them. Being a prideful mother, my mom had already sent it to everyone on the Little Manila board (my family helps run a non-profit organization, The Little Manila Foundation, that helps preserve Filipino-American history in Stockton, California. Check it out at www.littlemanila.net). She is so cute.

Well, that was my experience at the red carpet Hollywood premiere of “The Battle of East and West” Pacquiao vs. Hatton. I had the oppurtinty to experience part of the boxing world, interview Freddie Roach and Victor Ortiz, and most importantly, I got the chance to meet one of the greatest boxers of all time, my hero and my country's hero, Manny Pacquiao.

I hope you all enjoy my interviews on www.fighthype.com :)

Missing Trevor at the Arnold's and UFC 96...

Is your name Trevor? If so, this is for you...

R.I.P Charles 'Mask' Lewis

When I received the call that Charles passed away I couldn't believe it. It wasn't even confirmed it was him yet. All I kept thinking was no way its him. I text Dan 'Punkass' and no response. I called Tracy right away to see if she heard anything and she didn't. She was the first to hear from me. We hung up so we could make more calls. I called Ryan and told him and he said Scotty just got a call at that moment and was told the same thing. Later on I get a text 'It was him'. :(

The Underground server was unavailable because so many people were going to the site. Charles was the co-founder of TapouT... this is something huge to our MMA industry.

I remember trying to find my seat at the UFC in Chicago during a fight and while I was ducking and diving Mask asked me to come sit next to him. He had the best seats in the house lol. He didn't have to but he did. Then he goes "Dang Rara, you're everywhere on the internet. When is your next Expo thing?" lol He came to every single one of our shows. We posted a tribute to Mask on our site http://www.immae.tv

Tracy made a tribute to Mask album on her site and has the coolest story about him on there.

UFC 96 Saturday night aftermath with Brandon Vera and Mark Munoz

It's always good times on fight weekends. This one was a lot of fun cause I was rooming with Ed Clay the owner of Gameness and Ryan and Scotty the owners of OTM. If you've been following my blogs Ed Clay is one of my best friends. He also brought his girlfriend Britni and this was her very first UFC.

I got in Columbus at 12am Friday night and as soon as I got in I took a shuttle bus to the Renaissance Hotel to meet up with Ryan and Scotty, they had just flew in too. I was expecting to go to the club right away but we were waiting for Ed and Britni to meet up with us. While we were waiting we ordered a few Corona's. I was so happy to see Ed. I haven't seen him since his Gameness event in Nashville. It was such a site to see him.

UFC 96: Friday Night Preparties - combatlifestyle.com - CombatLifestyle Nightlife

Next thing you know Miguel Torres walks in with Tracy Lee and a bunch of people coming from a club. I said Hi to Miguel and brought him over to meet Ed, Ryan, and Scotty. I said, "This is Ed the owner of Gameness" and Miguel goes "My first 4 gi's were Gameness gi's." Then I also introduced him to Ryan and Scotty from OTM who also makes Lucky Gi's and Miguel goes "I have a Lucky Gi." I thought it was pretty cool and funny at the same time. After that Mike Goldberg walked in as happy as can be and as he gave me a hug I looked over and saw Mike 'The Joker' Guymon, 'ahhh ohhh' is exactly what I thought. Every time Joker is around something hilarious always happens and sure enough he picks me up and puts me in a head lock and then I put him in a head lock lol. Next thing you know Urijah Faber walks in. There was no way we were leaving to go to the club now the party was where we were at lol.

The next day we woke up pretty late. Plus we were all jet lagged and I really had to get to the Arnold's to sign at the Fight Chix booth. Beth said people were coming by asking for me but I tried to get there as soon as I could. I didn't sign for long cause I got there around 4pm. I walked around and checked it out. The Arnold's was crackin'. It was packed everywhere. I walked around and networked for IMMAE and grabbed as many business cards as I could. I couldn't get a hold of Ryan and Scotty. Knowing them they were either negotiating business or talking to some hot chicks, but I wasn't gonna wait for them. So I walked to the Renaissance hotel because Ed and Britni just got there. When I was walking I ran into Goldie walking to the arena ironically. It was less than a mile away and I was having flashbacks when Jaycee made me walk from New York New York to the Palazzo in Vegas in my 5 inch heels.... Torcher!!!!! I still will never forgive him for that lol.

I met up with Britni and Ed and we headed to the Nationwide Arena. Ed headed to the media section and Britni and I headed to the bar for our first drinks of the night. As we were both double fisting it back to our seats the most embarrassing thing happened to me... I slipped on some water and fell. I bit it soooo hard. I hit my head on the wall and on the floor and both of my drinks landed on me. It hurt so badly. :( I didn't want to wait for security to come to make report because I didn't want to miss any of the fights. Especially cause Brandon Vera's fight was second on the card. I wanted to hurry up and get the fuck out of where I was at and wipe all the alcohol off of my hair, face, and clothes... Yes very embarrassing! Ha! :)

I couldn't believe the referee during the Riley vs. Nelson fight. It was one of the worst early stoppages I've ever seen... Believe me when I say 'the worst.' Brandon's fight was next and I was super duper excited. I wish I had my Filipino flag but it’s at Brandon's house lol. I accidentally left it in their room when we were all partying during the Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight in Las Vegas. I looked in the Nationwide Arena and saw a few Filipino flags and nothing but pride entered my heart and I was singing along with Brandon Vera's walkout song 'Bebot' by Black Eyed Peas. Everyone around me knew I was Filipino and knew who I was rooting for lol.

When Brandon won his fight I couldn't stop jumping up and down. All I thought was 'we are fucking celebrating tonight!’ This was a big fight for B. He was getting criticized for a downfall in his 2008 career but now The Truth is back baybee!!! All I thought was 'now its time for Munoz to win'. Mark 'The Filipino Wrecking Machine' Munoz was fighting Matt Hamill, a more experienced fighter. Munoz was undefeated and I know how hard he has been training with Mike Guymon and how much this fight meant to him. Not to mention Munoz is Pinoy, and representing for us Filipinos really means a lot to him. I remember him emailing me his walk out song and it was a dope 'Filipino Wrecking Machine' song by a local Pinoy rapper and Pinay singer from the Bay Area, but he ended up walking out to E-40's Tell Me When to Go. Mark is from Vallejo and so is E-40 and when he came out I was getting hyphy and proud to be Filipino and from Norcal haha. But when Matt Hamill gave him that head kick for a knockout victory I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. Both of my hands were over my mouth and people around me were trying to come up to me to tell me they were sorry and that he is gonna be fine. I told them to leave me alone till he got up and when Munoz didn't get up for a while I started to have tears in my eyes. I've never cried at any fight. The most I've been heart broken was seeing Manny Gamburyan get knocked out in 14 seconds in Minnesota and hanging out with him right after his fight trying to cheer him up. It's completely different when you personally know the fighter and you know how hard they trained and how much the fight meant to them. Mark didn't get up for a while and I seen them carry up the stretcher. All I kept saying aloud was 'Get up Munoz... please get up!' He didn't need to be carried off the stretcher and when he got up everyone clapped. Whew!! What a relief....

I was super happy Rampage, Tamdan McCrory, Kendall Grove, and Gray Maynard won too. I thought UFC 96 was a great event. It was better than UFC 94 that's for sure. The event had really good fights with good endings. A big thumbs up to Joe Silva and the UFC for an amazing event.

As soon as we left the arena there were no taxi's around anywhere and there was no way I was gonna walk to the Renaissance again in heels. So I asked these two random black buys at the stop light to take us to the hotel for $20. I know it was pretty brave but I had Ed Clay with me and I know he can kick anyone’s ass lol.

We met with Brandon and his wife Kerry and her parents. I haven't seen them in a while. Kerry's parents are so cute and are very supportive of Kerry and Brandon's career. I gave B a huge hug and said Congratulations. I teased him and said "Where's your brother Joel?" lol. I knew Joel wasn't gonna be in Ohio. I hit him up before I left California. Brandon introduced me to his other brother and he looked so damn familiar to me. I said, "Were you on the flight from Denver to Columbus?" It turned out him and his wife were from Colorado Springs and was on the same connecting flight as me lol. Brandon doesn't drink much only on very rare occasions and this was definitely one lol. Ed Clay ordered a round of Jack and Coke for everyone. We all put our cups up in the air to the Celebration of Brandon’s victory. After that Mark Munoz walked in too. I said hi to his wife and then gave Mark a long comforting hug and he goes "Man Rara..." with his head down. I said "its okay Mark, this isn't it for you. Your career just started. I have faith in you and your fans do too." he thanked me and then Brandon was talking to him in Tagalog telling him to keep his head up, etc. Everyone was snapping photos from every direction. I had to make sure I got one with my boys. Especially a Tracy Lee photo :) Then Lloyd Irvin comes with a round of Mimosas and handed them to everyone. Brandon yelled "Munoz!! Get over here!" and handed him a Mimosa. We all grabbed our cups and Brandon said "To new beginnings", referring to him and Munoz. :)

I'm gonna end my blog right here. I'd write about the whole rest of the night but for you readers to know Brandon Vera and Mark Munoz were still hopeful and celebrating new beginnings is enough blogging for me.

I'm off to Columbus Ohio for the Arnold's Sport & Fitness Expo and UFC 96!

Well... I know I said I'd write about my UFC 94 weekend but I will get to it. I feel like cause I've been lagging on that I haven't been blogging lately... So my bad. I've just been going through a lot of changes in my life... Doing some re adjusting.

Right now I'm off to Columbus Ohio for UFC 96 and the Arnold's Sport and Fitness Expo. I'll be at the Fight Chix booth tomorrow with Beth and Jake Nuesser... I love them. I'm really excited for this weekend. Ryan and Scotty from OTM are gonna be there my best bud Ed Clay of Gameness is gonna be there.... Tracy Lee of Combatlifestyle course is gonna be there... Along with Damon and Jeff from MMA weekly, George from Tagg Radio, Ken Pavia from MMA Agents, the crew from MMA Authentics/Cage Fighter.... Just hella of my fight family is gonna be there. I'm really freakin' excited!

I'm more excited to see Brandon Vera, Mark Munoz, and Rampage throw down. Brandon and Mark are Filipino and are really really good people. If you understand our Filipino culture, we are all about family... Kababayan all day everyday. They know that we support them that's why they represent us so well. Just look at their shorts... They got the Filipino flag on them. And listen to their walk out songs. Brandon walks out to 'Bebot' and Mark had his own song created for him but its dope! I am completely excited to see our brothers fight in the cage again. I know Brandon is on the undercard when he should be a headliner but he is gonna come back with a vengeance. I believe in him and have all the faith in the world that he is gonna make a come back. Mark has an outstanding wrestling background and has been training with Mike Guymon for this fight. Maannnnn yall don't even know but Mark is gonna come out like a fuckin' beast! I can't wait! And I can't wait to celebrate with them.

I look forward to being at the Arnold's. Its obvious my intention on going is networking and collecting business cards. We already have 35 exhibitors registered for our next IMMAE event in August. Last year we had 109 exhibitors.... And its March and we already have 35 exhibitors registered! I can't wait to see how many we will get this year. Last event we had 15,000 people come over the weekend and I'm hoping to double that this year. We already have a few headliners booked and you guys are gonna be stoked! When the time is right we will send out a press release and announce it. Anyway, the Arnold's is where its at. Cheers to Fight Chix and collecting business cards! hehe

Well right now I'm in LA on a flight layover. Yeah can you believe that I'm in LA and I haven't been home in a weeks and I'm here on 2 hour layover lol. Next stop is Denver for another 2 hour layover and then Columbus. Yeah I know, a lot of layovers but I really wanted the cheapest flight lol.

I'm gonna be more religious about blogging like how I was before so please still stay tuned. :)

I'll blog to ya later. I'm gonna try to have lunch with Drea while I'm here in LA. I miss that biatch!

PFC, Affliction, & WEC!

Wow, it's been forever since I've blogged and if you can tell from my BeenUp2 I've been traveling a lot. I live my life so sporadically I love it!

After I spent almost two weeks in Stockton, I went to the Palace Fighting Championships with my cousins Roger and Jay. Dustin Akbari and Tito Jones from Ultimate Fitness were fighting on the card so you know I was rooting for them. Normally Urijah would be there cornering, but he was getting ready for his WEC re-match fight against Jens Pulver. As soon as we got there Dustin was fighting and he lost his fight. Tito won his fight and was looking mighty sexy in his fight shorts haha.

It was nice to have my family around watching the fight. I wish I could bring them to every single event that I go to. Roger always tells me he'll carry my suitcase lol.

Tracy and I stayed at the hotel and was on our way to Anaheim for Affliction the next day. We didn't want to miss weigh ins. Tracy is the hardest working woman I know. She had me drive while she was on her computer editing and uploading pictures to combatlifestyle.com. As soon as we got to the Double Tree in Anaheim we went to Chris Palmquist's room from mixedmartialarts.com to say Hi right before we went to weigh ins.

Affliction's weigh ins were the longest weigh ins I've ever been to. I think it lasted an hour an half and I'm used to them being less than 30 minutes long. The good thing was that while we were waiting at weigh ins, they were throwing out Affliction shirts. So I grabbed a few for some of my friends. Dru and Jane were at weigh-ins too which made the event much funner cause I'm telling you it dragged on...

After weigh ins I headed home to Hollywood with Dru and Jane and we picked up Jaycee for a night out on the town and ended up partying at Les Deux. That was my first night home two weeks. It was nice to sleep in my bed.

The day of the Affliction fight I headed straight to the Honda Center to meet up with Tracy and Krista. The moment I got into the arena I was upset because I missed the Nogueira vs Matyushenko fight. Why would they show a fight like that so early? Anyway, the arena wasn't packed there were still a lot of empty seats by the time I was watching the Dan Lauzon fight. Needless to say during each fight they were throwing out t-shirts and I caught three of them haha. I caught two larges and a XXL and gave the XXL to the guy sitting next to us. I was sitting with Ken Pavia and Krista and got to see a whole lot of people we knew from where our seats were.

I really enjoyed the Affliction fights. By far the best night of fights I've ever been to and you all know I've been to a lot :) There were just a lot of A-List fighters on the card with great finishes. I couldn't believe they didn't broadcast Jay Heiron's fight... his KO was insane! I was very happy for him.

The afterpartying is always fun too. I happy cause Dru and Jane got to come along with Tracy and I and it's nice to have friends around during the fight afterpartying. We hit three clubs and right now I can't think of them cause it was two weeks ago haha. At the Hitman Fightgear afterparty for Babalu DJ Turbulence was deejaying and he is the homie haha. Him and Marco were there and I was excited because here are friends that I see partying in LA all the time and Turb was deejaying at a fight afterparty.

After the clubs we went back to the hotel and chilled in the lobby to watch everybody come back to the hotel drunk. It's always quite entertaining... trust me haha! On our way up to Babalu and Apple's suite party we ran into Paul Buentello in the elevator. He quickly noticed me and picked me up and gave me a big hug. If you guys follow the sport and go to the Underground, I'm recognized as the Queen and he is the King haha.

Now my ultimate highlight of Affliction was meeting the man Fedor Emelianenko. I don't think I've ever acted so nervous asking someone for a picture, but that's mutha fuckin' FEDOR! I was shaking haha. I yelled at Tracy and said "Tracy!!" and pointed to Fedor. Tracy, Krista, and I all got solo pics with Fedor.

Me and Fedor...

The next day after Affliction Tracy, Krista, and I headed straight to San Diego for the WEC that night. You know we couldn't miss our boy Urijah Faber throw down in the ring, plus it was another MMA event in SoCal... why wouldn't we go? lol

The San Diego Arena was not packed at all. I was trying to get two extra tickets so Dru and Jane can come but I only came across one and then during the event Ben from ADX had an extra one and by that time it was too late. I was kinda bummed out about that, but I had a good time again at the fights like always. I was very happy Urijah won and I love Jens Pulver too. After the fight Tracy took Urijah's hotel key so that we could get ready for the afterpartying in his room. As soon as we opened his hotel room they were filming him for his online reality show so I guess now we are all on it. So keep your eyes and ears peeled for it. Urijah was starving so I gave him my food that I brought up to eat... he was the one who fought not me. He re-paid me by taking me to Thai Food a few days ago here in Hollywood anyway haha. Anyway, while Urijah was doing his interview with Sherdog we were getting ready and when we were done we headed down to the limo to get to the club for some partying.

- combatlifestyle.com - CombatLifestyle Nightlife

Urijah is by far the funnest fighter to ever party with. His afterparties are always insane too. I couldn't believe how packed it was when we got there. One thing I love about Urijah is that he will never turn a fan down. He was constantly taking pictures with fans and at the same time enjoying himself.

Urijah!

While we were at Urijah's afterparty Tracy and I walked over to where TapouT was having their afterparty. When she went downstairs to the basement she bbm'ed me "Joel is here." Tracy knows whats up hehe. Sure enough I went downstairs to find my future ex-husband lol. Joel is Brandon Vera's little brother (I know I have this thing with guys whose name start with J and I don't plan it that way lol)... I have a little crush on him and every time we see each other we are like magnets on the dance floor haha. Tracy left the party, but I stayed to have a dance or two or three with Joel. He is so cute... he trains and deejays. Too bad he lives in San Diego *sigh*

Me and Joel...

Everyone met back at the hotel for some more afterpartying. Krista and I didn't stay though cause we headed back to OC with Brad and Baily and called it a night.

I had a fun eventful week of fights... next was UFC 94 in Vegas...

Finally done with my blog! haha!

Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown

My niece Isys was working on a Flat Stanley project for her 2nd grade class. She mailed me an envelope and inside was a letter from her teacher, a letter from her, and Flat Stanley. The letter from her teacher said that her class has been reading a book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown and is working on a geography project. My job was to take Flat Stanley to places and take pictures with him and mail him back with postcards after the holidays.

Here is her letter:

Isn't that cute! Do you remember writing on paper like this? hehe

Anyway, I tried to take Flat Stanley everywhere I went. Jaycee was looking at me funny when I asked him to take a picture of me and Flat Stanley at Bahay Kubo lol. When I asked Arianny to take a picture of me and Flat Stanley at ArcLight Theatre she thought it was cute.

Well here is my letter to Isys:
Dear Isys,

Thank you for sending Flat Stanley to me. He was great company and a good guest.

We got to go to a lot of places. The first place I took him to was one of my favorite Filipino restaurants called Bahay Kubo near downtown Los Angeles, where we ate with my cute friend Joseph (He has the same name as Uncle Kakoo). Since Bahay Kubo didn’t serve macaroni and cheese I gave Flat Stanley a Filipino dish called Pancit. It had noodles and vegetables in it which gave him a lot of nutrients and vitamins.

After we were full from eating all that Filipino food, we went to the Fashion District in downtown Los Angeles. I couldn’t find what I was looking for so the next day I took Flat Stanley and my best friend Drea to the new Americana Mall in Glendale, CA. When Drea and I took a rest from shopping we sat down near this huge fountain and enjoyed a water show.

I also took him to a Mixed Martial Arts fight with me in Long Beach, CA where we took two buses and two trains to get there. I forgot to take pictures with him at the fight, but I got pictures of him on the train.

We also went to a movie with my friend and celebrity UFC ring girl and model, Miss Arianny Celeste. We watched the movie called Slumdog Millionaire at the ArcLight theatres off of Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, CA. I suggest you tell your Mommy and Daddy to go watch that movie. It was really good. Arianny, Flat Stanley, and I really enjoyed it.

Before I knew I had to send Flat Stanley back to Stockton I took him for a treat and we went to Hollywood and Highlands in Hollywood and all the stars that you see on TV have been there. I got pictures with Flat Stanley near the stars of a lot of famous celebrities like Kermit the Frog, Mickey Mouse, Destiny’s Child, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, Britney Spears, and Jackie Chan. At the Chinese Theatre we took pictures of the hand prints and foot prints of actors and actresses like Julie Andrews (one of my all time favorite actresses), Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler, Shirley Temple, and Donald Duck!

I hope Flat Stanley enjoyed his stay here with me in Hollywood, CA. Again, thank you for sending him my way.

Be good and stay blessed and always remember Jesus loves you.

See you soon…

Love always,
Auntie Rara

Here are some of the pics I took...

When I came home to Stockton I called my cousin Roger so that he can tell his daughter Isys that I had Flat Stanley. He tossed Isys the phone and I gave her the good news. She screamed YAY and couldn't wait to have him back. When Roger picked me up we grabbed some pizza and headed over to my Auntie Moneth's house. Isys didn't finish her pizza and when Roger told her 'three more bites' she said 'No'. Roger goes "Okay, three more bites and then you can open up Flat Stanley.", Isys quickly ate the rest of her pizza excited to open up Flat Stanley. :)

I had her read my letter out loud so our family can hear her. She read so well I am so proud of her. She is my very first niece and the first to ever call me 'Auntie Rara'. I can't believe how big she is and how fast she is growing. I thanked her Mom, Diana for having her send Flat Stanley to me and she said "We knew you would do it for her" Awwwwww I felt soooo good inside cause I'd do anything for her. Later on, I asked Isys how her class liked her Flat Stanley and she said it was the coolest one with the most pictures haha.

I would recommend Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown to any parent. The book gives children an imagination that runs wild and at the same time they get to learn about the geographical parts of our world. :)

This was so fun to do. I love being an Auntie Rara! ;)
